Become a friend of one of our award-winning
parks
If you love the great outdoors and enjoy practical tasks, why
not become a ‘friend’ of one of our flagship parks.
West Lancashire District Council’s two award-winning sites at
Coronation Park in Ormskirk and Beacon Country Park in Up Holland
have set up their own ‘Friends of the Park’ groups and are looking
for volunteers.
Those who join either group will be able to help shape and
influence the management of the parks and will be able to get
involved in lots of different tasks.
Its up to volunteers how much time they are able to spare and
can choose exactly what they want to get involved in. For example,
they can help with events, fundraise, try out practical tasks such
as planting, litter picking and hedge laying or even conduct
surveys. The groups only meet once a month.
The idea is that they are the ‘eyes and the ears of
the park’ and can generally ensure that the parks are used in the
best way possible for the benefit of the entire community.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said:"This is
a fantastic opportunity for anybody who is interested in the
management of our two beautiful parks and can spare a few hours to
become involved in their upkeep. The great advantage about becoming
a friend of the park is that it’s entirely up to you what you want
to involve yourself in. You may, for example, really enjoy helping
out at or you may prefer conservation tasks. As long as you’ve got
the parks’ best interests at heart then we want to hear from
you."
