‘Leaf’ the sweeping to the Council!
Extra road sweeping machines are now out in force to tackle the
autumn leaf fall across West Lancashire.
West Lancashire District Council has taken further action to
target the area during the heavy leaf fall period to ensure the
streets are clean, safe and tidy.
Two additional vehicles are out and about on a daily basis to
collect the leaves that fall onto the footpaths.
Hotspot locations are being specifically targeted during the
operation, which is expected to continue until March 2009, but the
whole district will be monitored and swept wherever problems
occur.
These extra measures are also helping to maintain a clean, safe
street scene during the autumn and winter and it’s also good for
the environment too because all the leaves that are picked up are
recycled.
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, said:"The
minute autumn is upon us, the trees start to shed their leaves and
cause concern with regards to cleanliness and safety. Therefore we
are making every effort to clear up leaves throughout the whole
district in order to minimise the problem.
"By having additional road sweeping machinery to tackle
hotspots, it means that the streets and footpaths are cleared more
regularly and our other teams can concentrate on other cleansing
duties - which benefits the district’s good reputation for being
clean, green and safe."
This latest initiative complements
the many other services the Council carries out to keep West
Lancashire a garden district.
