Safety is worth every penny
Did you know that you only pay 10p a week to
West Lancashire District Council to tackle crime!
With the money the Council collects from
Council Tax it is spent wisely and well on services that matter the
most to local people to improve their lives.
The safety of residents is a top priority to
the Council and so it invests well in tackling crime and the fear
of crime. Only 10p a week of your Council Tax money goes towards
community safety, which is good value for money because West
Lancashire remains one of the safest places to live, work and
visit.
The Council is the lead partner for the West
Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, which involves a number of
other agencies including Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Fire
and Rescue, Lancashire County Council, Central Lancashire Primary
Care Trust and other partners who all work together for the good of
the community.
Their work covers everything from combating
anti social behaviour, reducing domestic violence, managing CCTV,
providing additional funding for Police Community Support Officers
and instigating innovative initiatives to benefit residents.
There is also a Multi Agency Problem Solving
Team, who sit side by side to share information and develop
solutions to tackle issues of concern. While the Council’s Anti
Social Behaviour Team focuses on tackling tenancy enforcement,
incidents of anti social behaviour and juvenile nuisance.
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for
Community Safety, said:“We know that crime and the fear of crime is
a big concern for local people and year upon year we know that
residents want us to carry on making sure that the streets are
safe. For just 10p a week out of each person’s Council Tax bill we
are investing this money wisely on many crime initiatives to
improve their quality of life. It’s definitely money well spent
because the last West Lancashire District Council’s People’s Panel
survey showed that over three-quarters of residents feel that West
Lancashire is a safe, secure place to live. We want to continue
this trend and continue to work on the issues that matter the most
to local people because community safety remains a top priority for
local people.”
