Extra bonus through council
website
A parish council clerk landed an extra bonus
when she went online through the Council’s website to give views on
a planning application – she also won £100 of
vouchers.
Irene Roberts, the clerk of Aughton Parish
Council, scooped the quarterly prize draw for people who use an
online service at West Lancs District Council’s website www.westlancsdc.gov.uk.
As Mrs Roberts was acting in her official capacity as parish
clerk when she used the online form, she will receive the prize on
behalf of Aughton Parish Council.
Mrs Roberts said: “We always use the website
when we want to get in touch with the council because it’s
quick and convenient and
much easier than writing a letter or filling in a paper form. The
West Lancs website is really easy to use even if you’re not a
computer expert and the fact that you could win £100 prize is an
added bonus. I will be talking to Aughton Parish Council about how
they plan to use the
vouchers.”
Councillor David Westley, portfolio holder for
IT, said: “We launched the prize draw earlier this year to
encourage people to use the website to get in touch with the
council and I’m delighted to say that it seems to be working. The
number of people using online
forms and making payments through the website is increasing all the
time. I encourage more people to use the website – and don’t forget
that you could be the next lucky winner of the £100 prize.”
The prize presentation will be held at
Ormskirk Library on Friday 31 October
at 11.30am as part of the “go online at your local library”
campaign jointly run by West Lancs District Council and Lancashire
County Council.
The campaign encourages people to go online to
contact the council and highlights the fact that people who don’t
have internet access at home can use the “People’s Network”
computers in the six libraries in West Lancashire
(Tarleton, Burscough, Ormskirk, Parbold,
Skelmersdale and Up Holland )
completely free of charge. You just need to join the library to get
a membership number and pincode.
Membership of the library is free.
Entry to the prize draw is free of charge and
is open to people who use an online service at www.westlancsdc.gov.uk.
For example if you fill in an online form to request a service or
make a payment or to give your views you can choose to enter the
prize draw. The next draw will take place at the end of
December. The prizes are provided by one of the Council’s
technology suppliers and are not funded from the Council Tax.
