Get arty at weekends!
Are you creative? Do you enjoy having fun and meeting new
people? Then why not join Chapel Gallery’s Saturday Art Club.
Launched in 2001, the scheme has grown in popularity and is a
great way for young people to enjoy art in an educational but
lively manner, as sessions are very informal.
It’s open to 8 to 16 year olds of all levels and abilities who
can come along and get involved in the inspiring activities and
workshops.
Professional artists Sharon Kelly and Angela Thompson facilitate
the sessions, both have a wealth of experience across a wide range
of media so young people who join will have a fantastic
experience.
Members of the club aged 11 upwards can also get involved in the
innovative Arts Council Arts Awards Scheme, which was set up for
young people to gain recognition and national qualifications for
the skills they have learnt. The idea behind it is to help
youngsters develop their skills, lead creative projects and if they
want, begin a rich and fruitful career in the world of art.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "I’d urge young people who enjoy being creative to join the
club because the sessions are inspiring and educational but fun and
informal at the same time.
Regular members enjoy being able to explore the exhibitions at
the Chapel Gallery, take inspiration from other artists and then
focus on producing their own works of art using a variety of
techniques. So if you’d like to become a member, make sure you
contact us."
