Join the charity mutt strut!

Why not let your pet hound help raise pounds by joining the District Council and the RSPCA on a sponsored dog walk?

The ‘Mutt Strutt’ will be held on Sunday 28 September at Beacon Country Park in Up Holland. The start time is 12noon (registration starts 10.30am) and will be led by the Council’s Dog Control Officer.

Participants can sponsor their dog to take part in the dog walk to raise money to help animals in West Lancashire and surrounding areas.

As part of the event there will be a special promotion where you can have your pet micro-chipped on the spot for £10. There will also be free cat and discounted dog neutering vouchers, poop scoop bags and a whole host of dog welfare advice available.

The RSPCA will also be bringing along a small number of homeless dogs for the day, so there will be plenty of canine companions to go around - meaning anyone can stride out for this good cause.

Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:"This is a great opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause and spend a fun day with your dog. It not only helps to raise much-needed funds but also generates awareness around the importance of chipping pets. Micro-chipping your pet really is the best way to ensure that your animal has the best chance of being safely returned if it becomes lost or is stolen. So I would encourage all dog owners in the district to come along and help safeguard their dogs and learn all about canine care."

To take part, meet at Beacon Country Park’s Ranger Station at the main car park, near the golf course, Beacon Lane, Up Holland. The walk will last for around 1 hour. Don’t forget to bring your dog’s lead and to wear suitable footwear too!
