Encouraging investment and supporting businesses in West Lancashire

West Lancashire District Council is striving to support existing businesses and attract new investment to the area by promoting vacant commercial sites and premises to local, regional and national audiences.

The Council offers a successful online commercial land and property search to advertise the available premises in the district to potential investors. This can be accessed via www.westlancsdc.gov.uk/business.

Business people interested in finding premises in the district can enter the details of the type of property they require, such as retail, office, industrial, etc. The search facility also gives details of land that is available for development, in addition to details of the Council owned commercial properties, that are available to let, including Skelmersdale’s prestigious West Lancashire Investment Centre which is currently offering new tenants a 50% reduction in the first 3 month’s rent for a limited period only (conditions apply). The search results give the location and size of each site or property and a link to find out more information.

Cllr Adrian Owens, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “We are all aware that these are difficult days for many businesses. The recession is a national phenomenon and is due to a huge range of factors over which the Council has no control.  The Council is monitoring the situation day by day and is doing all we can to assist. We work closely with property agents to maintain an up-to-date register of vacant sites and premises across the District and to promote them to the widest possible audience.

“We receive a constant stream of enquiries from companies interested in investing in or relocating to or within West Lancashire and development is still underway at a number of key sites throughout the District, including XL Business Park and Stanley Industrial Estate in Skelmersdale as well as the recently developed retail units at Hattersley Court in Ormskirk. ”

In addition, the Council’s Enterprising West Lancashire Team is offering further initiatives to help businesses, including:

  • Free workshops and networking events
  • One-to-one tailored support from qualified business advisors
  • Website information on surviving the credit crunch
