It’s playtime at Beacon Country
Park
An exciting new children’s playground, which includes
specialist equipment for the disabled, will be opened in time for
the Easter holidays.
The much-awaited park attraction is to be officially
unveiled at the award-winning Beacon Country Park on Friday 3 April
by West Lancashire District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Cyril
Ainscough and other VIP guests.
It comes just in time for the school Easter break so that
children can make the most of the new addition to the pretty
countryside site during the holidays.
The District Council has also ensured that the facility in
Beacon Lane, Up Holland, is inclusive and offers equal play
opportunities for young people.
Its colourful, innovative equipment includes unusual
features alongside traditional favourites and was chosen by
potential users of the park who were given the opportunity last
year to vote for their favourite design.
The result is a creative environment that residents have
chosen themselves for children to mix and socialise in a fun way.
It also compliments the Council’s on-going initiative to improve
access to the countryside for people with disabilities.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services and Health, said: "Beacon Country Park is a popular site
and as part of its ongoing improvement programme we wanted to
create a play facility that youngsters of all abilities can enjoy,
which is why we asked them for their views last year. The chosen
design looks fantastic. The new playground really enhances the
other great facilities on site so that people of all ages can enjoy
this beautiful countryside attraction."
Last year the Big Lottery Fund awarded the District
Council funding to improve access to play in West Lancashire. Part
of this funding was used, together with a contribution from the
District Council to build the play area.
