Making it exhibition will change before your
eyes!
Three artists are preparing to relocate their work studios to
Chapel Gallery for the next month to take part in the first of its
kind experimental exhibition!
‘Making it’ is to be launched on 18 April and will be an
evolving display of works as each of the artists explores their
creativity in the public eye. As they develop their ideas the
artwork will change, therefore visitors will get a new surprise
each time they visit!
Ceramicist Catrin Mostyn-Jones, painter Sarah Jane Richards and
sculptor/ illustrator Matthew Roby have been selected for the
richness and diversity of their work.
Each of the artists will have a number of artworks on display
and will bring with them sources of inspiration and preparatory
work that demonstrates their thought processes and decision-making.
Each stage of the process will be documented and newly created work
will be hung/installed in the gallery space as it is created.
Inspired by what they see and with the artists’ guidance,
visitors will be encouraged to create their own work that will be
installed in the gallery too.
Local artist Matthew Roby is also well on his way to becoming
another Nick Park, the creator of the famous Wallace and Gromit
animation series. He will premiere the film ‘REEL’ during this
exhibition, which is a brilliant animation of Matthews’s weird and
wonderful characters.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and
Health, said:
"This is an experimental project for the Chapel Gallery that
focuses on the creative thought processes of three talented
artists. For four weeks visitors will be offered a unique
experience as the artists develop their ideas during their
residency at the gallery, allowing people to observe and, should
they wish, participate in the evolving exhibitions. It’s the first
time we have done this and I’m sure it will be a resounding success
- so don’t miss it!"
The exhibition runs until 16 May. You can visit the
Gallery off St Helens Road, which is free, anytime from 10am to
4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The café is open from 10am to 4pm. For
