Young art club members show their award winning
works
Celebrate the work of Chapel Gallery’s young art club members as
they unveil their first ever showcase of creative works.
This exciting new exhibition, which runs until 9 May, is to
applaud the knowledge and skills that youngsters aged between 8 and
16 have developed towards their bronze level Arts Awards, a
nationally recognised certificate.
The Art Club meets on alternate Saturdays and is facilitated by
professional artists Sharon Kelly and Angela Thompson. So the work
on show at the gallery is split into two themes.
Sharon, the Yellow Art Club facilitator, and her group have
developed a mixed media artwork called ‘All About Me’, that has
been inspired by them as individuals and is a very personal
expression of their lives. Techniques such as collage have been
used in the creation of the artwork, creating a pop art feel to the
pieces. Their display is energetic, dynamic and provides an insight
into the characters that have created the work.
Green Art Club facilitator Angela and her group have developed a
3D project of favourite fictional characters. This came about as a
development of a number of projects the group completed over the
past year. Throughout the project the children translated
two-dimensional ideas into three-dimensional objects. Members of
this group also took it in turns to interview each other and even
took photographs of all the processes used to create these
colourful, brilliant and very individual characters.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and
Health, said:
"The art club members have put together an amazing display of
vibrant, energetic artwork and the high standard and quality of
their pieces can speak for itself. This is the first time they have
put their artwork on show to celebrate their skills and
achievements and they should be applauded for their talent and
creativity."
If you are aged 8 to 16 and are interested in art, then why not
join the Art Club, which is a great way to explore your talents and
make friends too. Members are provided with the opportunity to
explore the latest exhibition showing and sketch in the gallery.
They are then encouraged, with expert guidance and support, to
create their own imaginative artworks.
The aim of the Art Club is to:
- Provide greater access for young people to the visual
arts
- Enable young people to work with professional artists and
educators
- Develop the creativity, skills and interests of young
people
- Provide an exciting and fun learning
environment
- Provide an opportunity for young people to gain
accreditation for the skills they have developed
Chapel Gallery is also a registered centre for the Arts Council
England’s Arts Awards Accreditation Scheme. These awards are aimed
at young people between the ages of 11 to 25 years old and are a
step forward in developing their artistic skills and beginning a
fruitful career in the arts. The awards can be taken at bronze,
silver and gold level, these correspond to the levels 1, 2 and 3 on
the National Qualifications Framework. Young people can continue
through the awards to become art leaders and explore employment
options.
