Building a future for West Lancs – the 2027 vision, 27 August 09

Building a future for West Lancs– the 2027 vision

Now is your chance to have your say on how West Lancashire will develop over the coming years to 2027.

Everyone who lives in the borough is being urged to give their views to help make sure that the new homes, jobs and services that West Lancs needs will be located in the most sustainable places.

West Lancashire Borough Council is sending a leaflet to homes in the area and is launching special website pages – www.westlancs.gov.uk/2027 - to encourage people to have their say. In addition people are also invited to attend local meetings to find out more and give their views during the six week consultation period from 3 September to 15 October.

Cllr Ian Grant, Leader of the Council, said: “West Lancs is facing some really important issues as we decide how our borough will develop over the next 20 years. We need to try to meet the aspirations of residents and provide the facilities and infrastructure that people need, while making sure that development is sustainable. I urge people to get involved because we want your input into these plans. To find out more, read the leaflet, visit the website, come to a meeting or look at the documents at the library. Whatever you choose – make sure you have your say.”

More information: the options

The Council has prepared an Options Paper which sets out five separate options for future development within the Borough, for example should development be focused on Skelmersdale and Ormskirk or should Burscough be considered for future development needs? The Options Paper will also seek to address key issues such as:

  • providing new housing and new jobs
  • meeting the needs of an aging population
  • regenerating Skelmersdale
  • providing for the gypsy / traveller community
  • future needs of Edge Hill University

The leaflet – Your West Lancashire 2027 – which is being sent to local households, summarises the options and gives information about how to find out more and give comments.
