Richmond Park in line for even more
improvements
West Lancashire Borough Council is currently working on an
exciting new improvement plan to enhance the environment of a
popular Burscough park.
Phase one has already been carried out at the well-used Richmond
Park and more benefits are on the way!
A new drainage system has already been installed to stop
flooding, the old changing rooms have been demolished and tree
management works have taken place to remove any that were damaged
or diseased. Now a new CCTV camera is being installed at the park
to provide community reassurance.
More importantly, the next major stage of works will be to build
a new changing pavilion and work is scheduled to start on this in
October. It is the biggest part of the overall project and will
give sports teams a better quality facility to use when they are
using the park to play games.
Once this work has been completed it will allow for even more
enhancement works to take place at the park. There will further
improvements such as new gates and fencing, better footpaths, the
replacement of park furniture such as seats and bins, and tree and
shrub planting. This work will be carried out once the new pavilion
has been built.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services and
Health, said: "We have finished the first phase of improvement
works to enhance the environment and the installation of CCTV will
help to keep the park safe. We can then gear up to the biggest
phase of the project, which is to build the new changing pavilion,
which will really benefit the local community and will make way for
other exciting plans too."
Depending on additional external funding, the Council is also
hoping to re-locate the multi-use games area; install new fitness
equipment and a trim trail; and also build a new entrance to the
park.
The park is still open for use while this work is going on,
although because there is still work to be carried out the
community may not be able to see some of the visual benefits at
this stage.
