‘Your Community Matters’ event in Holland Moor and
Claybrow
Help make your community a cleaner, safer and greener place to
live by joining the activities planned to enhance Holland Moor and
Claybrow.
Following the success of the Little Digmoor ‘Your Community
Matters’ two-week event in July, agencies including West Lancashire
Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire
Constabulary, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Groundwork, the faith and
voluntary sector and local schools will be improving this area of
Skelmersdale. They will be working alongside local community
groups, residents and the Safer, Stronger Community Board to blitz
the area.
From 1 September to 12 September there will be a range of
activities from fire safety talks, graffiti removal, sport
activities and youth clubs, a health and well-being afternoon,
community skips, and other events to promote cleanliness, safety,
and encourage community spirit.
The Borough Council’s Street Scene Officers will also be
targeting the area for fly-tipping and the Dog Warden will be
handing out poop scoop bags while other teams will be cleaning up
the area, carrying out shrub works and encouraging people to
recycle. Housing Services will also be identifying any communal
areas that need clearing of rubbish to prevent fires and will be
enforcing tenancy agreements.
Lancashire police will be carrying out high visibility patrols
and targeting areas of community concern.
Pupils will learn about fire safety and some children will even
be recruited as fire safety officers and will help to report hot
spots and grot spots.
To find out what’s happening in the area there is a ‘free events
buffet’ at Digmoor Community Centre, Birleywood on Tuesday 1
September from 12noon to 6pm, where residents can find out how to
get involved.
The event will close with an exciting free ice rink on 12
September from 10am to 4pm at Digmoor Community Centre.
It is part of the Neighbourhood Management project through the
Safer Stronger Communities fund to make Digmoor, Moorside and parts
of Tanhouse cleaner, greener and safer over the next year.
Councillor Ian Grant, Chair of the West Lancashire Local
Strategic Partnership, said: "I’m delighted that the partnership
has been able to support this positive two-week initiative to
enhance Holland Moor and Claybrow."
Margaret Highton, Chair of the SSCF Neighbourhood Board, said:
"We want to make this event a real success and get all the
community involved in the activities. Show us that your community
really matters to you and support it by joining in with the
activities."
Further ‘Your Community Matters’ events will take place in other
areas in the next few months so that other neighbourhoods reap the
benefits too.
Cllr Paul Greenall, West Lancashire Borough Council’s Portfolio
Holder for Community Safety, said: "I’m delighted that agencies are
really rallying round to help make these areas cleaner, safer and
greener place for people to enjoy. I’m sure the activities will be
great fun and will enhance the local environment."
