Educational workshops for schools
Schools are being encouraged to let pupils discover their
creative side at Chapel Gallery’s educational workshops.
The Arts Development Team has put together an inspiring
programme for schools. This includes educational tours, discussions
and creative practical workshops all planned to follow national
curriculum guidelines.
Children who join the sessions have a great opportunity to see
professional artists’ work and then have a go at some hands-on
practical tasks, which are centred on the latest exhibitions being
shown.
The next phase of workshops focuses on the forthcoming
exhibition, Inspired by Nature, starting 28 February, which
includes paintings, sculpture and film that demonstrate our
physical and emotional connection to nature.
Before attending the workshop, children will have to collect
natural objects to bring with them, such as leaves, stones, insects
and other pieces connected to landscapes such as woodland, deserts
or mountains. They will then spend either a half or full day at the
gallery looking at the exhibition and creating their own
artwork.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said:“This is a really good initiative and the programme is always
popular with schools. We always get lots of positive feedback from
the teachers and pupils for the sessions being educational,
creative and fun at the same time. I would encourage schools to
book their sessions now to avoid disappointment.”
Comments from those who have previously attended workshops
include:
- “A thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile day for the children and
adults” - St Annes R.C Primary School, Ormskirk
- “An excellent afternoon - enjoyable educational and
stimulating… for KS1, KS2 and staff” - Roby Mill, Up Holland,
Skelmersdale
- “Enjoyable for everyone” - St Michaels Primary School,
Aughton
