Little Digmoor soon in full bloom
Environmental works have started in Little Digmoor to make the
area greener and more pleasant for local residents.
This initiative is thanks to a new project involving the
Council’s Street Scene experts and local groups, including Little
Digmoor Fair Share Trust and West Lancashire Council for Voluntary
Service. Together they have been looking at ways of improving the
environment in the area and involving the local community.
As a result of pooling together their ideas, an environmental
project started last month (January), which includes pruning and
thinning some of the trees and shrubs to open up the area. In
places the ground beneath the trees will be planted with flowers to
make the area brighter and more colourful.
Later in the year, bulbs will also be planted to give a burst of
colour next spring.
The Council is supporting the work, using its expert
horticultural knowledge to ensure that the right work is done in
the right location. In addition, it has re-scheduled its planned
grounds maintenance work, which includes pruning bushes and
re-seeding some of the grassy areas, so that all the related works
are completed at the same time.
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, said: "We
always enjoy working with community groups to improve their local
environment because they can take ownership and have pride in their
neighbourhood. It also shows that we are committed to making West
Lancashire a green, clean garden district and this initiative is a
prime example that by working together we can ensure that we make
their surroundings even more attractive."
