Get rid of uninvited guests this
winter
Don’t let uninvited pests take shelter from
the cold weather in your home this winter!
To help make sure that your property stays
rodent free, West Lancashire District Council's Pest Control
Service is providing handy fact sheets full of advice on how to
keep out unwanted guests.
In wintertime rats and mice are particularly
prevalent due to the seasonal colder weather. Both are extremely
good climbers and can enter homes by creeping through small gaps in
windows and doors in search of food and warmth - a mouse can
squeeze through a gap of just 5mm!
So for information on how to prevent rats and
mice from living in your home or garden, make sure you read our
useful tips.
For a copy of the fact sheets,
visit Pest Control or call 01695 577177. The
Pest Control Service provides advice and cost effective treatments
for many pest problems in domestic and commercial premises. All
potential public health pests such as rats, mice, fleas and
cockroaches can be treated, in addition to nuisance pests such as
wasps and ants.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services, said:“It’s very distressing when you have unwanted pests
in the home! Especially as rats and mice have tough front teeth
that can penetrate hard materials, which can result in expensive
damage to a property by gnawing through wires and cables. But the
good news is that there are lots of ways to reduce the chances of
your home or garden becoming invested with vermin. Simple steps
such as making sure that your property is in a good state of
repair, checking that there are no gaps in cement joints and that
roof spaces are secure all help. Even things like not leaving
food out overnight uncovered and cleaning up all food and waste
spillages as they occur make your home and garden less attractive
to these furry fiends.”
