New 2009 art exhibition programme
unveiled
Chapel Gallery has put together its own work
of art - an exciting new 2009 exhibition programme.
Anyone interested in art and contemporary
craft should pick up a copy because they won’t want to miss the
inspiring selection of works, showcases and activities that are
happening from January through to July.
The programme includes both locally based
artists and those from across the UK. It incorporates everything
from traditional media such as painting and sculpture, right
through to exhibitions that include film, animation and
installation work too.
An afternoon in the gallery is a great way to
enjoy a little quiet time contemplating the artworks, or perhaps
you and your family could get creative by participating in the
activities on offer. Chapel Gallery is always free to enter and
free activities for young people accompany each exhibition. This
means that any visit is a special and inexpensive way to entertain
the family on a chilly winter’s day.
The Fairytale of Burscough Bridge is the first
exhibition of the New Year. The exhibition relates specifically to
the recent, award winning developments that have transformed the
landscape of Burscough Bridge. It includes old, rediscovered
photographs, light-boxes and a striking animation, projected
large-scale in the gallery space.
Throughout the winter, spring and summer
there’s a variety of work on show from those inspired by nature to
stunning three-dimensional work constructed from paper, shown
alongside showcase of painting, jewellery and textiles. A unique
experience is offered to gallery visitors in April as three artists
are invited to relocate their artist’s studios to the gallery.
Visitors can watch the artists as they make their work or can even
participate in the creation of a communal artwork.
Featuring again is the popular West Lancashire
Open Exhibition, which provides an excellent opportunity for
professional artists, art students and enthusiastic amateurs to
exhibit their works.
There’s also information about the Art Club
and Arts Awards for young people, various events and activities and
even how to become a member of the gallery.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for
Community Services, said: “Whether you are an avid art follower,
want to look at the lively exhibitions, create your own artworks in
a friendly environment or participate in the educational
activities, this new programme really does offer something for
everyone. As always, the team have put together a mix of the
traditional favourites and some new, unique experiences. I would
urge people to pick up a copy to avoid missing out.”
