Dream is a reality for Dream-Makers Drama
Society
It’s a ‘dream’ come true for a drama society
who can now put on a professional show with the help of West
Lancashire District Council.
Dream-Makers are a voluntary group that meet
on a weekly basis in Skelmersdale to practice and produce drama.
Members come from different sections of the community and some have
learning disabilities.
Running on a shoestring and goodwill, the
group decided to apply for funding from the Lottery’s Awards for
All scheme to help them achieve their ambitions.
Thanks to expert advice from the Council’s
Arts Development Team at Chapel Gallery, who helped them put their
application together, their bid was successful and they have been
given a cash injection of £7,850.
The team will now help the group develop the
project to ensure that they can enjoy a quality experience in the
world of performing arts and can work alongside professionals and
produce quality drama productions for the local community.
Mark Hill, Project Worker for Dream-makers,
said: “The group has become a social meeting place and somewhere
where people can build their confidence, express themselves
artistically and make friends. Our mission is to watch member’s
progress and put on good quality drama shows so we decided to apply
to funding. We approached the Arts Development Team for their help
because they are experienced in this field of work. Without their
input I don’t think we would have got the funding. Now we have
enough money for a professional actor to come along and provide a
quality experience so we can put on a show, ‘Scrooge the Musical’,
in November.”
The Council’s Arts Development Team regularly
provides support and advice to organisations and voluntary groups
who wish to develop their own projects, including providing funding
advice.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for
Community Services, said: “We’re delighted that we have been able
to help this group make their dream a reality. They provide an
invaluable service to their members who can express themselves in
such a warm, friendly environment. I’m sure the money will help
them develop their experience and I’m already looking forward to
their forthcoming show.”
