Bonanza Christmas celebrations in Ormskirk
‘Tis the season to be jolly so help us countdown to Christmas
with the popular lights switch on and art event extravaganza in
Ormskirk.
On Friday 27 November the town centre and Chapel Gallery will
come alive with festive cheer to mark the forthcoming yuletide
celebrations with a variety of entertainment for children and
families to enjoy.
From 4pm onwards at the Clock Tower Andy Jay will be bringing
lots of fun and laughter to the stage to gear up the crowds with
music, family games and entertainment.
Former X Factor contestant Steph Woods (pictured
above) from Skelmersdale was such a big hit at last year’s
Christmas lights switch-on that she is back by popular demand to
enthrall crowds with her amazing voice.
To add to the local talent Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band’s youth
section will be performing seasonal tunes and local artist Megan
Owen will be bringing her own style of music accompanied by local
musicians.
There will also be a spectacular fire and light show when
multi-talented performer Dan Collins will be doing fire juggling,
fire eating and fire sticks as well as his mesmerising light
show... out of the darkness and into the light. The audience can
watch in amazement a breathtaking display of light, magic and skill
as more things come to light and seem to manipulate themselves
under the watchful eye of the sorcerer of light!
Just before 6pm listen out for the sound of bagpipes as the
Piper leads the Mayor, the clergy, choir and local dignitaries from
Ormskirk Parish Church towards the main arena at the Clock Tower
ready for the carol service to begin at 6pm. The Mayor, Cllr Geoff
M. Roberts together with the winner of the Advertiser competition,
will then turn on the lights at 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, over at Chapel Gallery, they will be hosting their
Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Event. So if you’re looking for a
unique surprise for a loved one and want some fun thrown into the
bargain - this is the place to be.
Over 35 artists and makers from throughout the UK will present
breathtaking collections of jewellery, ceramics, textiles, prints,
paintings, hand-crafted Christmas cards and lots more for people to
purchase. Stalls open from 12noon to 8pm.
All the evening entertainment at the gallery starts at 6pm when
guests will be greeted by pixies, elves and a complimentary mulled
wine upon arrival and will have the chance to enjoy live music,
games, face painting and delicious food. Whilst enjoying all the
festivities you can also visit the latest exhibition - Objects of
Desire.
Councillor Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services, said: "Make sure you come along to Ormskirk next Friday
because there really is something for everyone. It’s a great way to
get into the festive spirit of things and listen to local talent,
watch the mesmerizing entertainment shows and join in with the
carols before the big switch-on. You can even pop along to Chapel
Gallery to find unique gifts for loved ones and see the latest
exhibition."
