West Lancs joins Twitter
West Lancs Council is launching a new online Twitter service to
help local residents keep up-to-date with Council news and services

The Council is joining the ranks of other leading councils,
companies, celebrities and world figures in using Twitter to keep
in touch.
Twitter enables people and organisations to send short messages,
known as ‘tweets.’ People can visit the Council’s Twitter page to
read the tweets, or can sign up as ‘followers’ of the Council and
have them delivered automatically to their own Twitter page or
mobile phone.
Cllr David Westley, portfolio holder for ICT, said: "Twitter is
amazingly popular and millions of people are using it all over the
world. We’ve decided to try it out over the next few months to see
if it’s useful for local residents.
"We’ll be using Twitter to give people information about Council
services and to let them know how they can visit our website to
find information and access services online. We’ve started a
three-month trial and I would encourage residents to visit our
Twitter page and sign up to receive our information."
Cllr Westley added: "It’s six times cheaper for the Council to
provide information and services online than through phone calls,
and so we are encouraging local residents to use the website when
they want to get in touch or request services. We’re hoping our use
of Twitter will encourage people to visit our website, which is
really easy to use and available 24/7."
