Not in my neighbourhood!
Residents are being urged to say 'Not in My Neighbourhood'
to crime and anti-social behaviour during a special
campaign.
West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership is supporting
the nationwide Home Office initiative ‘Not in My Neighbourhood
Week’ (November 2 to 6) to encourage people to get involved in
making their communities safer. The partnership recognises the
importance of working with the community during this period, which
includes Halloween and Bonfire Night and has planned a number of
key initiatives to combat crime and anti-social behavior and
provide reassurance to the local community.
Throughout the week partners will be carrying out a wide range
of activity to help combat crime, make a community look and feel
safer, and also listen to the public's concerns and provide
reassurance and support.
Councillor Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety,
said: "Not in My Neighbourhood Week is a great opportunity for us
to demonstrate the work that we do to tackle crime and anti social
behaviour to make our communities safer. We want to get out there
and talk to people who live and work in West Lancashire to find out
what their concerns are and give them the confidence to get
involved and help make a difference. This can be something as
simple as reporting a crime to the police, reporting graffiti or
fly-tips to the Council, or joining a Neighbourhood Watch
scheme."
Planned activities include:
-
Letters to Neighbourhood Watch coordinators encouraging them to
be extra vigilant
-
Activities to make Digmoor a cleaner, safer and greener place to
live in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire night
- A bonfire action plan to tackle anti social behaviour, reduce
fires and clear up combustible rubbish in the run up to 5
November
-
Digital switchover crime prevention leaflets to vulnerable
people to warn them about bogus officials
-
Youth Service and Fire Service working together to engage with
schools
-
Messages on local radio station Dune FM to encourage listeners
to report any suspicious activities
-
Crime prevention advice stands at various venues
Bill Taylor, Chairman of the Community Safety Partnership, said:
"An enormous amount of work is being done every day to make
communities safer and when people see this for themselves, it in
turn makes them feel safer and encourages them to get involved. We
can only tackle crime and anti-social behaviour by working together
and that’s what Not in My Neighbourhood Week is all about."
Chief Inspector Dean Holden, Lancashire Police, added: "This
week is designed to raise awareness of the huge range of work
people do, day in day out, to keep crime down, and make communities
safe.
"Neighbourhood policing is our day-to-day business in West
Lancashire. Our officers continue to work together with partners
and local residents to provide confidence in our services, to
tackle the issues that matter most and to continue to make a real
difference for our communities."
The West Lancashire Community Partnership includes key agencies
such as West Lancashire Borough Council, Lancashire County Council,
Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Lancashire Constabulary and NHS Centre
Lancashire, as well as other agencies.
