Business expansion will boost local economy
A major employer in Burscough whose exciting expansion plans
will help secure local employment, is to be visited by West
Lancashire’s Mayor and Council VIPs.
TRM Packaging recently won a funding bid from the North West
Regional Development Agency to implement a project that will help
them grow the business by purchasing plant and machinery to
increase the throughput of the operation by approximately 30%. This
will allow them to expand their premises at Red Cat Lane and secure
the long term future of the business.
West Lancashire Borough Council provided full support for the
bid and reinforced its importance to the NWDA to back up their
successful application because the Council knew the funding would
help their business grow and protect local jobs during these
difficult economic conditions. Also, it would allow the business to
remain in Burscough instead of having to potentially move out of
the area to another site.
In fact, TRM Packaging is already
one of the four major employers in Burscough and about three
quarters of their 227 full time members of staff are from the local
area.
Their recipe for success in the
current recession is focusing on providing a value for money
service to its customers. They make excellent boxes but more than
that, they work with companies to understand their business and
then design and manufacture the best packing solutions to suit
their needs. This is why they have a strong customer base in the
poultry, snacks, fresh produce, food processing and drinks sectors
and a growing reputation in healthcare and glass packaging.
Their story shows that there’s light at the end of the tunnel
for local manufacturers and the Council is keen to show their
support for the work that they are doing.
The Mayor Cllr Geoff Roberts and senior Council VIPs will be
given a tour of the site on 3 September where they will find out
about their substantial expansion plans.
Cllr Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and
Estates, said: "We were delighted to support TRM Packaging in its
funding bid to the NWDA and even more pleased when they were
awarded the grant because their plans will not only help their
business grow but will secure employment during these difficult
times and boost our local economy. They have excellent business
sense and not only do they look after their customers but they use
a lot of local supply chains and even have social links with the
local community, sponsoring the local cricket team and local school
sports teams. I’m really looking forward to visiting their site to
learn more about their expansion plans."
Chief Executive of TRM Packaging Trevor Maund, said: "I am
delighted that the support from NWDA and the West Lancashire
Borough Council will enable TRM to make this £12m investment in its
operation at Burscough to ensure the company’s competitiveness and
to enable TRM to meet the needs of its customers for many
years."
