No more mucky pups!
Does the thought of mucky paw prints put you off taking your dog
for a stroll in the countryside? Well Beacon Country Park has its
very own shower for four-legged friends.
Dog lovers will know that it can be hard work to clean your
canine after a walk in the park and it can mess up your own
bathroom in the process too!
To make this task easier, West Lancashire Borough Council has a
handy shower for pets at its most popular countryside site for dog
walkers. It can be found by the Ranger’s station, at the Visitor
Centre Car Park entrance.
So after putting your canine through its paces around the
picturesque Beacon Country Park you can then bath them at the site
and take the headache out of them trailing dirt through the house
or in the car.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "Anyone who has a dog will know that it can be a daunting
task to clean them up after they have been trekking around the
countryside, especially when they end up traipsing mud in the car
or the house afterwards. But if you visit Beacon Country Park you
can use the doggy shower and save yourself all that extra work
because they’ll be nice and clean straight after their walk."
Whether you have a dog or not, Beacon Country Park is well worth
a visit as it has over 300 acres of rolling countryside on the
slopes of Ashurst Beacon above Skelmersdale. There is space to
walk, run, ride horses or bicycles, fly kites, or just get away
from it all and relax as it is a pretty combination of flowing
meadows and woodlands, commanding majestic views across the
Lancashire Plain to the west and the Pennine Hills to the
east.
Picnic areas, an orienteering course, nature trail, and bridlepath
are open for everyone to enjoy as well as a play area for children.
There’s even a 'Tramper' off road mobility scooter available to
hire, free of charge.
Beacon Country Park is the base for the borough's Countryside
Ranger Service. The Ranger Service often run events and activities
to enhance your visit, and can provide added information from their
visitor services cabin alongside the visitor centre. For more
