Face the People 2011

Have your say on how anti-social behaviour is tackled in West Lancashire at the annual Face the People event. The public meeting, on March 2, will this year focus on how the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership works to combat anti-social behaviour across the borough.

The event, at Skelmersdale Ecumenical Centre, Northway, also will allow residents to speak to members of the partnership and give feedback on how they feel crime and the fear of crime is dealt with. Last year’s meeting was a resounding success, with more than 180 people attending to listen to presentations from partner organisations and ask questions.

At the event will be a panel of senior representatives from West Lancashire Borough Council, Lancashire Police, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and Lancashire County Council. The panel are there to meet the public to hear their issues and let them know about action that they have taken or will consider taking to tackle any concerns.

William J Taylor MBE, chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, said:

"This event is a great opportunity to listen to community concerns, inform residents about actions that we are taking in response to local priorities and trying to solve problems together.

Ensuring that we engage with our local communities is crucial in increasing public confidence and reassurance. By all working together we can ensure that West Lancashire remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit."

Councillor Paul Greenall, portfolio holder for Community Safety at West Lancashire Borough Council, added: "The partnership is trying hard to work with all the communities in West Lancs to ensure their views are heard.

Face the People is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to have their say to do so. It’s important that any issues people may have are addressed."

The meeting will again be compered by Dave Guest, BBC North West’s chief reporter. Entrance is free of charge but to guarantee a place residents should confirm their attendance. Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
