Interested in helping build your own home? 10 January 11

10 January 2011, 11/07

Are you interested in helping to build your own home?

Would you be interested in rolling up your sleeves and helping build your own home? West Lancashire Borough Council is trying to find out if local people who can’t afford to buy a house might be interested in self-build schemes.

Cllr Val Hopley, portfolio holder for housing, said:

“This type of scheme is aimed at helping people who just can’t afford to buy a house, but are willing and able to help build one. It involves people rolling up their sleeves and giving a fixed number of hours of their labour to earn a share in the ownership of the property. It’s called ‘sweaty equity.’

“It’s early days and the council hasn’t made any plans yet. The first step for us is to try to gauge whether there might be interest from local residents to help build their own homes.”

Anyone who is interested should visit the your views page to find out more and express an interest.
