Batty about bats
A lot of people don’t like them, horror movies make monsters out
of them but at Coronation Park in Ormskirk - we love them. We are,
of course, talking about bats.
On Thursday 21 August, between 8pm and 10pm volunteers from a
hospital for injured bats in Wigan will be visiting Coronation Park
to provide information to visitors about the bats that live in and
around the park and local area. They will also give you the
opportunity to have an up-close look at some of the bats that they
have in their care.
Bats are some of UK’s most brilliant mammals but also the most
endangered and in need of protection. Large-scale developments and
building restorations in the last century caused the number of Bats
in the UK to plummet to near extinction and despite strict
regulations that now protect bats numbers remain low.
Cllr Geoff Hammond,
Portfolio Holder for Community Services said: "Bats are wonderful
and fascinating animals and events like this are both exciting and
educational making them a vital part of Urban Wildlife
Conservation. I urge everyone to disregard their horrifying image
and bring the whole family to Coronation Park to find out the truth
about these amazing animals."
This event is free but numbers are limited so booking is
advisable. For more information visit our events page. To book onto the event please
