Environmental road shows have the green
answers!
Do you want to make where you live a better place? Well why not
come along to one of the special environmental road shows taking
place in September.
To coincide with this year’s national ‘The Big Tidy Up’, West
Lancashire District Council has organised a series of events to
promote recycling and Environmental Awareness.
Residents across the district are already doing a fantastic job
of recycling their household waste, which is reflected in the
massive 48% figure that the Council has achieved for recycling.
So to celebrate, increase rates even further and to mark the
ENCAMS campaign to keep Britain tidy, the Council thought it would
be a good opportunity to put on road shows to encourage people to
recycle more and also to highlight litter and fly-tipping
issues.
The events, all which take place between 10am and 2pm, are as
follows:
- Tuesday 2 September, Red Lion Car Park, Newburgh
- Wednesday 3 September, Marks Square, Tarleton
- Thursday 4 September, Ormskirk town Centre
- Friday 5 September, Asda, Northway, Skelmersdale
Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, said: "I
would like to say a big thank you to all the residents who are
taking responsibility for their rubbish. I would urge residents to
come along to the road shows to find out how you can recycle even
more and help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill,
which will in turn protect our precious environment for future
generations."
The road shows also mark the three-year anniversary of the
introduction of the alternate weekly waste collection service.
Under this system, the Council visits homes on the same day every
week to collect recyclables one week, and all the Grey Bin material
the next. Since its launch it has been a fantastic initiative and
has ensured excellent recycling rates.
