People of West Lancs to have their say

29 September 2008, 08/222

People of  West Lancs to have their say

Thousands of people across West Lancs are to have their say on living in their area.

During the next few weeks, around 3,000 households across West Lancs will receive a questionnaire asking for people to give their views on a whole range of issues from crime and anti-social behaviour to health and wellbeing.

The survey is a Government requirement and all councils across the country will be asking the same questions of local residents so that national trends and comparisons can be made.

In a money saving initiative,  West Lancs District Council and Lancashire County Council have joined forces to run the survey and are appealing to residents to have their say.

Councillor Ian Grant, Leader of West Lancs District Council, said: “This is an important survey that will provide a real insight into how people feel about their local area and pinpoint any issues of concern to local communities.  Every district across the whole country is required to take part in this survey and by working together with Lancashire County Council, as well as the other councils in Lancashire, we have been able to save many thousands of pounds.  We now need people to take part so that we can use the results to develop future services.”

County Councillor Hazel Harding, Leader of Lancashire County Council added: “By working together like this we are saving money and acting in the best interests of local taxpayers.  The survey has to be done and it is our job to make sure it is done in the most efficient way possible.  We are now asking anybody who receives a questionnaire to please fill it in and send it back.  It is only by listening to people and acting on their views that we can ensure local communities improve for the better.”
