Playtime boom - thanks to a new trio!
A new team is about to become a winner on the play circuit
across West Lancashire, thanks to a cash windfall.
West Lancashire District Council was recently awarded £267,509
from the Big Lottery to improve access to play in West Lancashire
for those harder to reach groups.
As a result, three new posts have been created using some of the
funding to ensure that playtime is accessible to all.
Karen Platt, is the new play project leader. She, and her two
assistants Jenny Mclean and Sarah Lee, will be spending their time
over the next three years providing brand new activity
opportunities for children who live in rural communities, those in
older age groups between 11 and 17 years, and for young people with
disabilities.
The project - the first of its kind in West Lancs - will be
launched next month (September) when the trio will start
introducing themselves to communities and finding out what the kids
want to do in their spare time.
They will cover Scarisbrick, Tarleton, Burscough, Old
Skelmersdale, Birch Green, Halsall and Parbold.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "We want to provide as many play and leisure opportunities as
possible for the wider community and so this exciting project will
really ensure that we engage with those harder to reach groups and
give them lots of informal play opportunities. But to ensure the
project is a success, we want your ideas on how we should develop
this initiative. If you have any views, please don’t hesitate to
get in touch."
If you have any ideas about how this initiative should be
progressed, contact the team on 01695 555570. If you want further
