This exhibition will have you wagging your
tongue!
Some of the best sayings and traditional proverbs from cultures
around the world will be echoed at Chapel Gallery when its latest
exhibition is unveiled.
Wagging Tongues will be showing from 20 September to 1 November
and is an imaginative and insightful set of works from three
artists who explore notions relating to people: their attitudes,
beliefs and prejudices, in a succinct, poetic and often humorous
way.
Printmaker Adrienne Craddock, sculptor Marjan Wouda and Shellie
Byatt select some of the most striking proverbs and celebrate them
through the mediums of collage, print and sculpture.
During the exhibition visitors will see elephants, crows, fish
and fanciful figures fabulously portrayed in a collection of images
that takes you around the world to discover what granny would say
in countries near and far.
Also showcasing alongside this touring exhibition is Liz Toole’s
paintings. Her work combines her love of pattern and colour with
landscapes and birds in order to create magical worlds that reflect
the extraordinary diversity of nature.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "Most people will have heard sayings such as ‘take a bull by
the horns’ or ‘looked a gift horse in the mouth’. Wonderful
proverbs like these will be brought to life in this touring
exhibition. It has had rave reviews and was listed in The Saturday
Times as one of Rachel Cambell-Johnston’s Top Five Gallery
Exhibitions. So I would they this is a definite must see,
especially as we have Liz’s lively, magical work to accompany the
exhibition."
