How you can help
When you go shopping:
- Only buy what you really need
- Choose the least-packaged goods
- Re-use your carrier or shopping bags
- Buy concentrated goods to minimise packaging
- Avoid disposable products and buy things that last.
- Buy things that can be recycled at the end of their lives.
- Buy products made from recycled materials - this helps to
support current recycling schemes by ensuring an end-market for the
collected materials.
- When equipment breaks down, see if it can be repaired before
thinking about discarding it.
- Hire, share or borrow equipment that is not used very often,
such as garden tools or decorating equipment
- Compost as much of your kitchen and garden waste as you can,
either in your own garden or by taking it to a household waste
recycling centre.
- Use local recycling facilities to recycle as much as possible
of your waste.
- Join Action at Home (see separate Green Page).
- Take your name off junk mailing lists by contacting the Mailing
Preference Service.
