If an emergency does happen remember to keep calm, think before
you act and listen to the advice of the emergency services or
council.
To help minimise the effect an emergency may have on you, your
family or your home, it’s good practice to ensure that:
- your home is adequately insured
- your property is in good order
- to learn how to turn off your water, electricity and gas
supplies
- to maintain an emergency pack
Emergency pack
An emergency pack will help you to be prepared in the event
of an emergency by ensuring that you have a few essential items
easily to hand. Your pack could contain things like:
- battery powered radio
- torch, candles, matches
- spare batteries
- first aid kit
- a list of useful phone numbers such as neighbours, school, GP,
utility companies, the Council
- pen, pencils
- bottled water/canned drinks
- long life food
- cooking equipment (incl. tin opener)
- blankets
- dry clothing
- medication
