If you're an
employer, manager or in charge of premises or vehicles you need
to:
- Display 'no-smoking' signs in smokefree premises and
vehicles
- Take reasonable steps to ensure that staff, customers/members
and visitors are aware that premises and vehicles are legally
required to be smokefree
- Remove any existing indoor smoking rooms
- Ensure that no one smokes in smokefree premises or vehicles and
that they are totally smokefree at all times
You might also want to take these supportive measures:
- Remove ashtrays from smokefree areas
- Develop a smokefree policy in consultation with staff
- Offer staff training to help them understand the new law and
what their responsibilities are
- Provide your staff and customers with support to quit
smoking
If you're self employed and your premises is visited by others
to give or receive goods or services your premises must be
smokefree. You must also make sure that the correct signage is
displayed prominently at all times.
If you are a taxi driver and your vehicle is used as a taxi,
whether it is a private hire vehicle or other form of taxi, it must
be smokefree at all times, not only when carrying members of the
public. Taxis must display the appropriate signage.
Work vehicles and public services vehicles must be smokefree at all
times and display appropriate signage. If you use your own car for
work purposes it must remain smokefree when you are carrying
passengers in connection with your work.
