Homelessness advice and prevention
The Homelessness Advice and Prevention Team offers free
confidential advice to anyone in the West Lancashire area who is
homeless or thinks they may soon become homeless. Advice can also
be offered to private tenants and landlords on the law around
private rented tenancies (see Tenancy relations section).
This section offers a guide to what we can do to help - but
as every case is different it's important that you contact us
as soon as you think you may be at risk of becoming homeless so
that your individual circumstances can be assessed.
The main aim of the team is to try and prevent
people becoming homeless. To do this we:
· Speak to landlords to try to stop you being
evicted
· Offer help with paying the deposit on a
private tenancy (see Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme)
· Help prevent harassment and illegal eviction
by private landlords
· Refer people to debt counselling agencies
and other support services
· Give advice on how to apply for a council
house
