Platts Lane Lake, situated north of Ormskirk on the way to
Burscough, is one of West Lancashire's hidden secrets.
Fishing for all the family is one of the attractions of Platts Lane
Lake, either by rod and line in the well stocked main lake, or with
a net in the nearby pond.
The reeds and flowers around the pond hide frogs, water beetles,
and dragonflies. Kestrels can regularly be seen hovering over the
long meadow grasses in search of prey.
A small picnic area helps to make a pleasant day out for everyone,
but if you want a little bit more you can follow the footpaths from
the lakeside out into the wider countryside.
The recently completed Burscough Water Garden, in the centre of
Platts Lane Lake site, has transformed a design by a local
schoolgirl into a reality.
Platts Lane Lake features on two of the Self Guided Trails: the
Burscough Wetlands and the Ruff Wood Lathom Circular walks.
