Simonswood
Simonswood is a mainly rural community between Melling,
Bickerstaffe, Rainford and Kirkby with about 115 people on the
electoral roll. After some 20 years as part of Merseyside's
Knowsley Borough, the Parish was brought back into Lancashire as
part of West Lancashire District.
The Parish has seen many changes over the years. Much agricultural
land was taken up by industrial and housing development but rural
and agricultural activities still continue. The Parish features an
industrial estate with a range of businesses while on the eastern
side, peat from Simonswood Moss is processed for horticulture and
long established florist and horticultural businesses continue at
the smallholdings in Hall Lane.
