Adoption and fostering

Adoption and fostering

Lancashire County Council's Children and Families (external link) section answers some common questions related to adoption and fostering, including:

  • becoming an adoptive parent
  • adopting a child known to you
  • adopting from another country
  • putting a child forward for adoption
  • adoptive families in need of help, advice and support

Fostering
Fostering provides short or long term care for children and young people who are unable to live at home, and also provides flexible family support through other schemes. The local authority runs the adoption service for Lancashire.

If you're interested in fostering children, contact Lancashire County Council on freephone 0800 195 1183 or visit the Fostering in Lancashire website (external link) website. Which can tell you all about becoming a foster carer, answer frequently asked questions and what support is available.

Adoption
Adoption provides a permanent family for children who can't be brought up in their birth family. The County Council's Adoption (external link) section will be able to tell you everything you need to know about the adoption process.

You can also find out more at the Adoption UK website (external link).
