Open Space, Sport and Recreation Study
Consultants PMP were appointed in the
summer of 2008 to prepare an Open Space, Recreation and Sport
Assessment for West Lancashire. The aim was to look at the
quantity, quality and accessibility of open space provision across
the borough and identify any deficiencies / gaps which could be
plugged through the planning process. Questionnaires were issued to
a random selection of 5,500 households in West Lancashire to gather
information about people's perceptions of open
space. Consultation was also carried out with schools and
other key stakeholders. The report is now available.
New play area at Summer Street, Skelmersdale
We invited a selection of play manufacturers to submit
designs for new play facilities in Summer Street, Ashurst. In
August 2009, the designs went on display and local residents and
children chose their favourite. Work began at the end of October to
install the new equipment in time for Christmas 2009.
Design Awards 2009
Thank you to everyone who sent in
nominations for the 2009 Design Awards. Judging has now taken
place and the winners have been revealed.
Overview and Scrutiny
The Council’s Overview and Scrutiny
Committee invited residents to submit ideas to be included in
their work programme for 2009/10. A number of topics were
suggested.
Executive Overview and Scrutiny Committee’s Leisure Trust
Update
In autumn 2009 we asked for your suggestions for how the
sports centres and swimming pools in the borough might be improved.
The feedback will help the Overview and Scrutiny
Committee to make improvements.
Beacon Country Park - new play area
During August 2008, people were asked to vote
on this website for their favourite design for a new play area for
Beacon Country Park, Up Holland. We also held a exhibitions and
consulted young people themselves. The favourite design has
now been installed.
Local Development Framework (LDF)
The Council held "Spatial Forum"
consultation events in July 2008 to involve the local
community in the preparation of the Local Development
Framework (LDF). A feedback report interpreting the information
from these events has been published and is now available to
view.
Ormskirk Town Centre Conservation Area Appraisal
A public exhibition was held on 4 December 2008 and local
residents and involved organisations were consulted on proposals to
preserve and enhance the character of this conservation area. The
information you gave us was used to produce a draft final document
which was available for comment. Consultation closed on 20 February
2009 and the comments received were used in the preparation of
the final report which went to Cabinet on 24 March 2009.
People's Panel
Regular surveys of the People's Panel were held for a number of

Coronation Park, Ormskirk
We've been encouraging local residents and people who
use Coronation Park to give us their views in the annual
survey. The results of the 2008 survey are available

Best Value General Residents' Survey 2006
In 2006 all local authorities were required to carry out a
survey of local residents about the quality of local services. This
report sets out the results of the survey in West Lancashire.

West Lancashire Design Guide
The Council consulted widely with public
bodies, local amenity groups, Parish Councils, and architects and
agents on the draft document throughout Nov/Dec 2007.
Ashfield Terrace conservation area, character appraisal – July
2008
New play area at West End playing fields, Ormskirk
Local residents were consulted about plans for the new play
area. There was a postal survey and a public viewing to help choose
the design for the new play area. Installation took place prior to
the summer holidays in 2008.
The Annual Monitoring Report (AMR)
In January 2009 the Council informally consulted on the content
and design of its Annual Monitoring Report. Over a six-week period,
no comments were received. There are no results to report.
